Mrs. Adelaide Miller

Adelaide Miller was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She attended the Public Schools, New York Community College and Brooklyn College. She was married for 60 years to Ormund Herman Miller and had 2 children.

Adelaide religious foundation was at Newman Memorial United Methodist Church in which she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent of the Children’s Division in the Sunday School, Finance Board and Girl Scout Leader.
After many years, Adelaide and the family joined the Unity Church of Brooklyn where she served as Coordinator of the Birthmonth Groups. The name of the Church was changed to the Brooklyn Truth Center.

When Reverend Norbert St. Louis decided to form his own Church called Unity Pyramid of Truth, Adelaide and Herman were among the 12 founders. Adelaide served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, Treasurer of the Church, member of the Women’s Group and Board Member.

Adelaide’s Community work was Vice President of P.S. 167 P.T.A. Board, President of the Hampton, Sterling, Virginia Place and Kingston Avenue Block Association, Inc., Member of the 77th Precinct Council, Community Board 8, and Crown Heights North Association, Inc.

Adelaide has been integral to the Crown Heights Service Center, Inc. for over 37 years, she has served working with the youth getting them into College, as a Board Member and Recording Secretary.

Adelaide and her daughter Leothy Miller Owens (deceased) were former owners of NKIRU Book Store in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn for 23 years.
